When building your lists and hierarchies in Anaplan what types should you use - flat, ragged or balanced?

All of them!

We have found that the best way to design robust, intuitive yet responsive models is to utilise all three different types of lists and hierarchies.

Flat lists are used to store all list properties and act as the anchor or master list, ragged hierarchies when end users are required to interact with them, and balanced hierarchies in our modelling.

This is because we use multiple parallel hierarchies in building our models where the base list remains identical and binds them together yet the parent and grandparent relationships differ.

Using many more smaller shallower hierarchies rather than a few deeper hierarchies allows us to design flexibility into our models. This ensures we are not restrained in how we model, gives us access to multiple modelling options and ensures our models are intuitive and easier to use.
